A few decades back I forgot to pack my vise for a trip and thus was obliged to learn to tie by hand. Success intrigued me so I kept at it over the years. Eventually I discovered that fly tying vises are relatively recent tools and, freehand tying was and still is high art.

Nevertheless a vise remains practical, though traveling with most vises remained a challenge as none are truly compact. So, with the ingenious mind of Faruk Ekich (Ekich Automatic Bobbin) we designed a true travel vise. Compact and hand held what better name than the, TRAVELER VISE. Incomparable hand milled work displaying a craftsmanship on par with fine hand made watches, an artfully arched head design, our sequentially numbered TRAVELER VISE provides three essentials for a master fly tyer; clear access to the back end of the vise, a firm hold on all hook sizes from tiny 28’s to Salmon size hooks and, a broad head adjustable across multi-turns for secure clamping power. An adjustable leather strap holds the Traveler to the top of the hand, freeing the fingers of both hands for two hand tying. The platform holding the vise head articulates in all directions to accomodate differences in hand size and comfort zone preferences. And best of all, with its compact design, the Traveler Vise is well named. Streamside or in the lodge for the evening, the TRAVELER VISE functions on a mechanical level with the best of vises. If you have any skill at all, tying freehand with our compact Traveler is a breeze. With the addition of the Ekich automatic bobbin you become a master in no time.
